Fitting a Boost Gauge into the Nissan 200sx S14 & S14a

This should only take about 30mins to install. Making your mind up as to where to mount the gauge will probably take a matter of days though.

I personally never use the ashtray, since I have a perfectly good window to flick my ash out of, so I decided that this is where it was going to go.

Firstly I must apologise for the incredibly cheap, incredibly inaccurate gauge. It's a TIM gauge and I can't recommend them lowly enough. But at the time I needed a gauge there and then, so....

To make it worse it came with a white face so I ended up making a new one for it.

Right, firstly open up the bonnet and stand on the offside looking at the engine. You'll see the big silver intake plenum. Behind this at the back of it to the right there is a small black tube (about 2" long) coming from it and going into the brass coloured fuel pressure regulator (it's just next to the variable-valve actuator). This is the tube we need to tee into (NOTE: You can also tee into the top "thin" actuating pipe going into the Dump Valve. see this pic here).

arrow 1 is where the original pipe went from/to. You cut this pipe (or replace it) and place your T-piece into it. Attach your boost gauge pipe into the other end of the T-piece (2) and then feed the pipe through under the intake plenum.

You can feed this pipe through the bulkhead. There should be a few unused rubber grommets already in the bulkhead (arrow). I ran a screwdriver through one to get the pipe through it and then fed it through.

Attach the end of the pipe to your gauge and that's it. Just make sure that everything is connected nice and tight.

Knocking up something to fit in the ashtray was a bit of a bodge job:

I butchered an old CD case and superglued bits to it. It works but I've since redone it all with a bit of fimo and a nice Carbon Fibre Autometer gauge. You can also buy Carbon Fibre DIN guage plates here at Apex Performance
